Values
proclaim Christ
We want Christ and all that he represents - things like love, grace, hope, truth, goodness, righteousness, justice, peace, beauty, salvation, renewal, reconciliation - to be proclaimed in and through our church family in every way possible.
This is why, for example, we are a church family where preaching is central to our Sunday worship service. We believe that the preaching of the Word of God is a God-ordained and Holy Spirit-empowered means to proclaim Christ.
This is also why we as a church family highly value and promote the arts (music, poetry, drama, writing, art, etc.) as part of our worship of God. We believe God gives us the arts so that we can proclaim Christ in a variety of ways in a variety of settings that will impact people for God's glory and the good of all.
love like Christ
The example of Christ is at its heart one of self-giving love rather than self-grasping greed. It is a love that is proactive, forgiving, and unconditional. If we are serious about being fully human and restoring our connection with the divine, we must begin by looking to the cross and seeing the love of Christ being poured out for us. So we at Roosevelt seek to be a family who fundamentally reflect God by pouring ourselves out in love toward all those God brings into our lives. We do this while at the same time seeking to grow more and more in a love relationship with God.
This is why, for example, we are a church family that regularly gathers together in smaller groups in one another's homes. This "home church" setting gives us more opportunity to build authentic, meaningful, loving relationships with God and with each other and to be more personally equipped for being ambassadors of Christ in our world .
serve like Christ
Christ was always ready to serve. This was often the pathway through which he began to engage people with himself. Christ was always looking to serve others at their point of deepest need. We at Roosevelt seek to be a family who serve in our world as Christ served in his. We are committed to serving our neighbors sacrificially and using our gifts and resources to accomplish good in the lives of all those God brings our way.
This is why, for example, we are a church family where every one of us is dedicated to being a proactive servant of Christ within our church family and within our local communities. Through various church ministries and community projects we seek to demonstrate Christlike service.
grow in Christ
We at Roosevelt ultimately want to become like Christ in every way. The more we become like Christ the more we are able to encounter and reflect God's glory and bring divine goodness and blessing into our own lives. This means we must be rooted in Christ and then seek to be steadily built up in Him. We do not want to be a church family of spiritual infants. Rather, we are dedicated to pursuing those things that might increasingly mature us in Christ.
This is why, for example, we are a church family that is rooted in the Bible. It is the most basic and fundamental "food" through which we can mature in Christ. The Word of God, then, is central to our worship services and home church meetings. It is our central reference point in our use of the arts. It guides and grounds us in everything we say and do.
